Product Description

Product Description

Acrylic rubber, known by the chemical name alkyl acrylate copolymer (ACM), is a type of rubber that has outstanding resistance to hot oil and oxidation. ACM has a continuous working temperature of 170 C and an intermittent limit of 200 C. ACM is resistant to ozone and has low permeability to gases. The swelling resistance in the presence of mineral oils is better than that of ethylene acrylic rubber.

Properties of Acrylic Rubber
The properties of acrylic rubber are primarily determined by the chemical structure of the ester groups and the composition of the comonomers. For example, as the chain length of the ester group increases, the glass transition temperature decreases significantly, while oil resistance improves accordingly. Acrylic rubber elastomers exhibit excellent heat and hot oil resistance. In terms of hot oil resistance, acrylic rubber vulcanizates outperform those made from nitrile rubber (NBR). ACM demonstrates excellent resistance to modern engine oils, transmission oils, automatic transmission fluid (ATF), and lubricating greases. It also offers good resistance to oxidation, aging, and ozone. However, its low-temperature properties may not always be sufficient, and it has limitations in strength, elasticity, water absorption, and hydrolysis resistance.
Acrylic rubber is not resistant to water, steam, fuels, or aromatic solvents.

Key Properties of ACM at a Glance:

  • Excellent weather, ozone, and hot air resistance
  • Moderate strength
  • Low elasticity
  • Thermal stability ranging from -30°C to +150°C, with brief excursions up to +160°C
  • Relatively poor low-temperature performance
  • Good resistance to mineral oils
  • Moderate resistance to fuels
  • Average rebound resilience
Compared to many other rubber types, acrylic rubber is more resistant to swelling in animal, vegetable, and mineral oils, although this resistance decreases at higher temperatures. Its dry-running performance is poor, and it is unsuitable for applications involving water or very low temperatures.
As ACM rubbers are amorphous, they require active fillers, such as moderate-activity carbon blacks, to achieve satisfactory mechanical properties. Depending on the comonomers used, curing systems for ACM rubbers may include diamines, soap/sulfur systems, or triamines.
